Introduction to: TRIVIA AD

You may have stumbled across qHoboken's friend Trivia AD in the pages of Time Out New York Magazine, as Hoboken' s own Mr. Oliver was listed as one of the New York City area's BEST TRIVIA Hosts.

http://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/new-york-citys-best-trivia-nights

But there is more to the Prince of Pop-Culture and his crew:

The Trivia AD group does it all, Television- and movie-themed trivia such as Seinfeld, Arrested Development, Saved by the Bell, How I Met Your Mother, Sex & the City, Harry Potter, Back to the Future and more! Making the countless hours of television you've watched over the years worthwhile.
The best aspect about Trivia, A.D. is that it is a fun, positive, entertaining endeavor that enriches people's lives. So many businesses are about making money just for the sake of making money, or convincing people they need something whether they do or not.

They are proud of the fact that they provide an outlet for people's love and passion for pop culture they grew up with and love to re-live. It is evident not only in event turnout, but in the obvious audience enjoyment, the positive feedback, and the loyal following these events
have generated within the community.

Because of these nights, people get to know each other and strangers become friends.  As a result, many of our local bars and restaurants have seen increased patronage both during our trivia nights and otherwise because they become new and favorite gathering spots.

Not only does TRIVIA AD help our local venues, but they are more than happy to pair with businesses, giving out prizes they donate, raising their visibility, driving more people to them, helping the economy.  They have made a vital impact on the city of Hoboken.

The "smallness" of the community has made them more successful while they have helped bring in crowds to Hoboken bars on nights that normally wouldn't.

Small business helping small business.

Finally, they host several charity events benefitting various causes and are always happy when approached to contribute their time and service.

In turn, you can help support TRIVIA AD in winning a Small Business Loan throught the Chase Small Business Grant.

Vote for TRIVIA AD in our HOBOKEN community. Each business needs at least 250 votes to be considered for a $250,000 grant. Eligible small business applicants will then be judged by a panel of business experts.

Auditions: Pirates of Penzance

OPEN CALL AUDITIONS FOR THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE

The Theater Company of Hoboken (TTC) will hold open
auditions on May 29 & 30, 2012 from 6-9pm at DeBaun Auditorium, Edwin
A. Stevens Hall, 24 Fifth Street, Hoboken, NJ (campus of Stevens
Institute of Technology) for their summer production of THE PIRATES OF
PENZANCE. TTC seeks a diverse cast, ages 14 and up, for this
delightful comic operetta with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto
by W. S. Gilbert, as directed by Clara Barton Green.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, or The Slave of Duty, is the story of
Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his
apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. Upon his release
he meets and falls in love with Mabel, the daughter of Major-General
Stanley, and shortly thereafter finds out that due to a trick clause
in his apprenticeship, he has actually not been released from his
indentures.  Will Frederic betray his new-found love in favor of his
duty? And what of the pirates who are plotting revenge against the
Major-General for having cheated them out of plunder?

Performances are July 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 & 22, 2012 at 7pm in Frank
Sinatra Park, Hoboken and July 28 & 29, 2012 at 4pm in Harsimus Cove
Memorial Park & Cemetery in Jersey City.

Director's Statement:
“I've always loved PIRATES--it's far and away my favorite Gilbert and
Sullivan because it's so irresistibly dashing.  Handsome pirates
storming the beach, sword fights, beautiful maidens being carried
off--what's not to love?  I'm also crazy about the music--I grew up on
this gorgeous and witty score and am unable to resist singing along
(at least in my head!) whenever I get to see it performed.  We're
going to preserve nearly all of the score, but trim down the show just
a bit--get it out of the baroque heaviness of the late 19th century
and make it a little leaner, sassier and sexier.  As someone who has
an equally strong background in light opera as well as straight
theater, I'd like to give as much emphasis to the comedy in PIRATES as
is usually given to the score.” – Clara Barton Green
